Brittany used flower cutin mutants to test how the plant cuticle contributes to floral organ abscission in Arabidopsis thaliana.

Most aerial surfaces of a plant are coated with a waxy layer called the cuticle.

Brittany analyzed flower cutin mutants to look for changes in abscission.

This slippery layer acts as a sealant and helps organs fall to the ground after loosening, the study showed.
