The Annual McCully Plant Biology lecture resumed this year after a two-year break. We wanted to have it in person!

Thanks to Dr. Rowan Sage for a fantastic story about the evolution of C4 photosynthesis.
Years of painstaking work has pieced together a series of changes in leaf cellular anatomy that facilitate a metabolic shift in the way plants "do" photosynthesis. C4 plants like maize are good producers in hotter, drier climates.
Will this knowledge lead to the engineering C4 rice and other staple crops? Scientists are trying.
